Washington Post, Ann Coulter repeat debunked story of Thatcher's Palin 'snub'

Margaret Thatcher’s credentials as a conservative are beyond question. Unfortunately, Ann Coulter raised questions about her own political leanings today by repeating a debunked story about Thatcher and Sarah Palin during a call to Geraldo Rivera’s show on WABC Radio. The Right Scoop has the audio.

No, Sarah Palin and Margaret Thatcher never met, but it wasn’t a snub, nor did Thatcher’s office declare that “Sarah Palin is nuts,” as was reported in the Washington Post today.

In 2011, the Guardian newspaper reported that Thatcher would not be meeting with Sarah Palin during Palin’s trip to London. “Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts,” the paper quoted one Thatcher ally as saying. The rejection sparked an outcry among conservatives in the United States, lending a great deal of attention to the non-meeting.

So why is Coulter repeating the bogus story years later?

There’s been no Twitter response from Coulter yet, but she did take a shot in the right direction tonight.
