Sen. Chuck Grassley asks Clinton lawyer David Kendall when, how, why he received security clearance

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley might be most famous for his tweets about hitting deer, but right about now he likely has Hillary Clinton lawyer David Kendall caught in the headlights. Grassley, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has sent a letter to Kendall asking him to confirm when, how and why he or any of his associates received a security clearance in connection with the firm’s representation of Clinton.

The National Law Journal reports that Grassley has given Kendall a week to confirm whether he had clearance to have a thumb drive filled with sensitive emails from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Grassley also asks 13 specific questions, including the following:

  • When did you receive the security clearance in connection with the custody of Secretary Clinton’s classified emails?
  • What security clearance level did you have to maintain custody of Secretary Clinton’s classified emails? What was the security clearance level for all associates?
  • Which government entity granted you and your associates a security clearance to be a custodian of Secretary Clinton’s emails?
  • What was the primary purpose for that government entity granting you and your associates a security clearance?
  • Did the Department of State request that you be provided a security clearance?  If so, on what date was that request made and why?

More bad news for Kendall courtesy of the Daily Caller regarding the chain of custody of the documents.

Clinton gave Kendall a thumb drive with more than 30,000 State Department emails. He reportedly instructed his staff to review the thumb drive and print out hard copies for the department.

“We do know it was Kendall’s subordinates — the names for which we do not know — who did that search. But we don’t know who they are to this day,” the congressional source said.
