Hillary Clinton cites time in situation room as proof of experience, endurance

One of standard lines from Hillary Clinton’s stump speech is that she already knows her way around the White House. As the caucuses draw closer and the polls show her in trouble, Clinton has changed her tune a bit. Speaking today in Iowa, Clinton reminded her audience just how much time she’s spent in the White House situation room as evidence that she’s the more experienced candidate.

Then, of course, there was the terrorist attack in Benghazi. President Obama famously wasn’t in the situation room that night, and flew to Las Vegas to campaign the next morning. Four days after the attack, though, he did find the time for an official presidential briefing on the attack. Clinton, who famously campaigned that she’d be there to answer that 3 a.m. phone call, wasn’t there, emailing that she didn’t wake up until nearly 11 a.m.

Don’t think that President Clinton will snooze through any meetings, though.

That something we’d like to see: say, a pull-up contest among Clinton, Sanders, and O’Malley.
