What a shock: National anthem protests top reason NFL viewers tuned out, survey finds

A new survey by J.D. Power revealed that protests held during the national anthem were the top reason NFL viewers who watched fewer games last season tuned out.

Of more than 9,200 people surveyed, only around 13 percent said they actually watched fewer games, but among those who did tune out, 26 percent said the protests were the reason. To be fair, the NFL’s “off-the-field image issues with domestic violence” and excessive game delays followed very closely at 24 percent.
