'Dangerous': ICE acting director slams California's passage of sanctuary state bill

A “sanctuary state” bill approved by California Democrats Saturday morning is headed to Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk and will impose limitations statewide on local and state police in their interactions with federal immigration agents. The bill, SB54, bill passed the Assembly by a vote of 49-25 and the Senate 27-11.

Thomas Homan, acting director of ICE, issued a statement Saturday afternoon accusing legislators of codifying “a dangerous policy” that “deliberately obstructs our country’s immigration laws and shelters serious criminal alien offenders.”

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the law will “bar local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency on deportations except in cases in which immigrants had been convicted of certain crimes.”

In other “please secede” news from the San Francisco Chronicle:

Another bill sent to Brown, SB386 by Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, would allow many sex offenders to petition to be removed from the registry 10 to 20 years after they are released from prison, as long as they have not committed another serious or violent felony or sex crime.
