CNN: Broward Co. Sheriff's Office received at least 45 calls related to school shooter or his brother

On Saturday night, the Broward Co. Sheriff’s Office released a statement to correct some of the “lies” being spread about the office’s response to police calls to shooter Nikolas Cruz’s home. For one, Sheriff Scott Israel asked the media to stop using the “39” number — the true number was 23.

BuzzFeed, however, did its own investigation over the weekend and found there had been at least 45 calls, including 22 911 calls that were never disclosed to the public.

CNN has done its own investigation as well and concurs with the 45 calls for service number.

CNN reported Monday:

Records obtained from the sheriff’s office by CNN show the law enforcement agency received at least 45 calls for service relating to Cruz or his brother from 2008 to 2017, before the attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland on Feb. 14. The sheriff’s office has insisted it received no more than 23 calls for service regarding Cruz or his family.

CNN has repeatedly asked the sheriff’s office to explain the discrepancy, sending emails and attempting to reach an agency representative by phone. The agency has not responded to those requests with an explanation.

That’s two reports of 45 calls from two separate news agencies.
