Pentagon issues new rules, including social media guidelines, to curb the 'rise in extremism' among the troops

The Pentagon has issued some new rules aimed at curbing the rise in extremism among the troops — and when they say “extremism,” they mean right-wing extremism, noting that some troops and veterans took part in the January 6 riot at the Capitol. As we reported, Newsweek has sounded the alarm over “millions of angry, armed Americans” ready to seize power if Donald Trump runs in 2024 and loses, and now we have extremists embedded among the troops as well.

Be careful what you “like” on Facebook or Twitter, we suppose — or CNN will track you down and interrogate you in your driveway.

The Associated Press notes:

Senior defense officials tell The Associated Press that fewer than 100 military members are known to have been involved in substantiated cases of extremist activity in the past year, but they warn that the number may grow given recent spikes in domestic violent extremism, particularly among veterans.

That number may grow … from 100 to 102 or 103 if something isn’t done. We were curious and checked the AP story for evidence of these “recent spikes in domestic violent extremism” but the most we could find were a half-dozen active military who’d been arrested in connection with January 6, and we don’t know if they’re charged with anything harsher than “parading.”

Misgendering equals extremism.

In February, the Department of Defense directed commanding officers and supervisors at all levels to conduct a one-day “stand-down” for training on extremism. Moonshot, the contractor charged with investigating extremism in the military flagged Google searches for “the truth about Black Lives Matter” as evidence of white supremacy.
