As Twitchy reported Friday evening, GoFundMe decided to issue refunds to everyone who donated to the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraiser after saying it was going to distribute unrefunded donations to charity. As Andy Ngo pointed out, GoFundMe hasn’t seen a problem with fundraisers for left-wing causes such as the PDX Protest Bail Fund — a bail fund, meaning money was going to people who’d been arrested during the protests.
The Ottawa Police put out a tweet praising GoFundMe for “withholding funding for these unlawful demonstrations.” If they’re so unlawful, why have there been so few arrests?
We want to thank @gofundme for listening to our concerns as a City and a police service. The decision to withhold funding for these unlawful demonstrations is an important step and we call on all crowdfunding sites to follow.
