What an odd thing to say. Asked by a reporter, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said that getting crime under control was the No. 1 priority. As an example, she brought up the case of a 33-year-old doctor who was struck and killed by his own car after it was stolen from him. They’re still looking for the perpetrator, but Bowser, in an aside, noted that the carjacker probably didn’t intend to kill anyone, but did. He was just trying to steal his car. Yeah, that sounds tough on crime.

The New York Post reports:
The brazen auto theft occurred after Dr. Rakesh Patel, 33, exited his car, which was still running, to deliver a package to his girlfriend on Vernon Street NW at about 8 p.m., NBC Washington reported, citing police.
The suspect slipped into the empty Mercedes E350 – drawing the attention of Patel who raced back on foot in an attempt to foil the crime, the report said.
But the crook hit the gas and ran over Patel as he sped away. Patel was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Why would that thought even enter her head, let alone exit her mouth? Maybe let the police catch the guy and complete their investigation before letting the guy off of a murder charge.
