Tim Ryan is right: Some want to turn our schools 'into the next battleground in the culture wars'

Once again, we have a candidate who learned nothing from the gubernatorial election in Virginia, where Terry McAuliffe was proudly joined at rallies by Randi Weingarten and explained that parents have no business telling schools what to teach. Ohio Senate candidate Tim Ryan seems to be standing firmly with the teachers’ unions at his own peril. What we don’t get is what he trying to say here exactly … he’s saying there are people who want to turn our schools “into the next battleground in the culture wars.” Just which people would these be? The ones advocating for vocational education? Or the ones insisting on bringing Drag Queen Story Hour into kindergarten classrooms? Republicans are not the ones who turned classrooms into cultural battlegrounds.

Exactly … you as parents were just supposed to sit quietly and let it happen.

Parents start showing up to school boards to demand some input into what their children are learning and are branded domestic terrorists for raising their voices.
