Gun control groups like Newtown Action Alliance normally argue that “assault weapons” like AR-15s should be banned to keep our kids safe. However, American Progress was among those groups glued to the January 6 select committee’s final hearing Monday and took the committee’s word for it that President Donald Trump knowingly sent an armed mob to the Capitol. For an armed mob, they weren’t very well armed, we have to say. But imagine if they had been armed with AR-15s — we wouldn’t be living in a democracy today.
