SHOCKER! Sen. Chris Murphy paints scenario where even Manafort's CONVICTION would make US a 'banana republic'

Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy is making some assumptions in order to show how Trump will lead the nation further down the road to tyranny, and using the Manafort trial to do so:

So I generally choose not to hang on every twist of the Mueller investigation, but if Trump pardons Manafort (after maybe having promised a pardon to get him not to cooperate) and gets away with it, then we’re in a banana republic. We just are.

Murphy’s obviously assuming Manafort will be convicted, but imagine his reaction if that doesn’t happen. Eh, Murphy’s reaction will probably be pretty much the same no matter what happens.
