There’s an interesting thread going around that suggests the Green Party’s failure to get on the ballot in certain key states is what ended up giving Joe Biden enough votes to win those states:

Without the Green Party “protest” vote, these Dems probably just voted for Joe Biden:
There is absolutely .2% of the electorate in these states that is terrible enough to cast a protest vote provided the name on their ballot, who didn't because there wasn't.

But would libertarians have voted for President Trump if they didn’t have a candidate? Not likely goes this theory:
To the folks saying “what about the Libertarians,” that’s different.
Most of the 2016 LP vote shifted to Biden this time, and I don’t know how the remainder would have split this year. I suspect most would have either gone write-in or left the top of their ballot blank.
