'Shouldn't be prosecuted': Trey Gowdy on the difference between divulging classified info and using personal email

Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina was a guest on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday morning and was asked about Ivanka Trump’s reported use of a private email account to send emails to White House aides.

He emphasized the difference between divulging classified information (which is a crime, according to Gowdy) and using a private email account to conduct public business (which he says is against regulations but not a crime).

The Left, of course, immediately cried foul at Gowdy, accusing him of hypocrisy in how he is dealing with Trump vs. how he dealt with Hillary Clinton’s email probe.

Gowdy says he has talked to Ivanka Trump’s attorney and requested more information earlier in the week about her email use and specifically whether any emails contained classified information.

The scrutiny around Clinton surrounded her use and distribution of classified information as Secretary of State and what information is/was on her server about the September night four Americans died in Benghazi, Lybia.

Gowdy also pointed out:  “(House Republicans) have done more in the last week than some of my House Democratic colleagues did the entire time we were looking into Benghazi.”
