Lupe Ontiveros, who most notably portrayed Yolanda Saldivar in Selena, passed away after losing her battle with liver cancer. She is survived by her husband Elias and three sons. Co-star Jennifer Lopez spoke to Us Weekly about how saddened she is:
“I am tremendously saddened by the news of Lupe’s passing! I’ve enjoyed her work throughout the years. She was a great actress and working with her in Selena was an unforgettable experience. She will truly be missed.”
Though she is probably most remembered for her Selena role, she has always been a busy actress with recurring roles on Desperate Housewives (for which she was nominated for an Emmy), Southland, and Real Women Have Curves among others. Her former co-stars are Tweeting condolences.
