Building a Home Where Love Lingers: The Power of Unbreakable Family Bonds

Watching this video made me think about my own big, burly son who also hates to be away from home.

It's very clear he has a wonderful family life and feels very supported by his parents and siblings. It's the way family should be. It's beautiful to see. I sent it to my son and his reply was 'I'm so glad I never left home'. He went to the Fire Academy, but thankfully we had one within driving distance and he was allowed to come home at night. I'm happy he sees our home as his safe place and a soft place to land.

I have parent friends who are eager for their 18 year old young adults to move out and start their own lives. I am in no hurry. My son has a tiny house on our family property and my 19 year old is comfortable in her own room and attending college. I love seeing my adult children daily and learning about the new people they are meeting and their new life challenges. I want to support them and it keeps me young.

As a friend recently told me, 'instead of being their anchors, we become their lighthouses'. We become their beacon of light when they need help and now they willingly come to us for support and no one has to force them. They seek us out joyfully. What a privilege.

It will always pay dividends.

My 19 year old is doing just that (we call community college 'state' college in Florida). There is so much pressure for young people to go away for college and leave their families. That's not a good fit for all students.

Since my children were small, I've taught them their siblings are all they will have one day and they must stay close to one another. I am an only child and I hated it. I always vowed I would not leave my children alone when I was no longer here. I'm so thankful they love each other and enjoy time together. I'm blessed my son has found a mate who gets along well with his sister and includes her. There may never be enough money left at the end of any month in my household, but there is always an abundance of love. We are rich.
