Mom's Alarm: Des Moines Superintendent's Moves and Lies Echo My Past Fight

imgflip

A few years back, my daughter, a high school junior, loved PE—rare for a teenage girl. She took it every year, and that year, it was weightlifting. She was stoked, especially about the new coach, who seemed fun and engaging. Until he wasn't. One day, she came home saying he creeped her out. I did some digging and found a local Facebook group admin had been tipped off about his shady past. Long story short, this guy bounced around schools in multiple states, dogged by accusations of sexually harassing students and staff. I teamed up with the admin, and we brought a mountain of evidence to the School Board. Their response? They backed him. So did the football parents, gushing about how the kids loved him, how he was 'kind,' and how 'people make mistakes.' It was infuriating. This guy's history was a neon red flag, but his charm and good looks blinded them. I pulled my daughter from his class to protect her. Eventually, more evidence surfaced, a news channel got involved, and the Superintendent had no choice but to fire him.

It was a wake-up call about how easily people fall for a likable facade. When I saw that Des Moines Superintendent, Dr. Ian Roberts, had worked in seven or eight states over the past 20 years, my radar went off. Six-figure Ed Leadership jobs don't make you move every 2-3 years unless you're running from something.

Last night, I couldn't sleep, so I dug deeper and uncovered some eyebrow-raising details.

He never lets dust gather under his feet, that's for sure.

I have a feeling Dr. Roberts has had that conversation several times in his career.

His name is really 'Andre' for those confused. He's Andre Ian.

I figure more dirt on Dr. Ian Roberts will keep coming out—stay tuned. I've watched a ton of his videos, and the guy's got charm for days. It doesn't surprise me he promoted women to high-level roles; they’re likely more susceptible to his smooth talk. Men probably see through his swagger. I bet the Democrats will dig in to defend him, but he’s not worth the fight.
