GROAN! 'Poor People Deserve Twinkies!' Cry Welfare Warriors—Taxpayers: Budget Like Us, No SNAP Soda

As the deadline looms to ensure food stamps are renewed for November, a big debate centering around treatment of the poor has popped up online. In essence, some people say those who want the food stamp program to be reformed just hate poor people and don't want them to have any comfort foods or sweet treats.

SNAP is intended to be supplemental. Because people are receiving it, that should free up some money for them to buy sweet treats or convenience foods, if they so choose.

Guess what? People who don't get food stops, folks in the middle class, don't get all the treats they want either. They budget. To assume those living off the kindness of taxpayers shouldn't have to do the same, is frankly insulting.

What a concept! Regular people have to budget and it's just fine to assume those requiring assistance will do the same.

SNAP recipients don't only have to eat those things. They could choose some of those staple foods to ensure their health and well being, and use their own income to provide themselves luxuries.

That's the nice thing about your own hard earned cash. You can use it however you want. When someone else, whether the government or a family member or friend, is funding your lifestyle, there will inevitably be strings attached. That's just human nature. Also, the 'N' stands for 'nutrition'. Perhaps that means the money should be spent on nutritious food and not empty calories, processed junk and high fat snacks.

It's spitting in the face of the average American to provide luxuries for some while those who don't qualify for benefits barely get by.

Sorry if people feel that sounds harsh, but it's flat out facts.
