Brian Ross, media malpractice consequences: Falsely accused Tea Party member receiving threats

As Twitchy reported this morning, ABC’s Brian Ross shamefully tried to tie the Tea Party into the Aurora shooting tragedy. By doing so, he falsely accused a Tea Party member named James Holmes as being the suspect. Mr. Holmes has now had to turn his phone off, due to all the threats he is receiving.

ABC and Brian Ross tried to walk back their accusations.

But it is too little and too late.

“Just bloggers” at Breitbart.com have the story from the falsely accused innocent man.

Breitbart News spoke to James Michael Holmes, the Tea Party member falsely identified this morning by ABC News’ Brian Ross and George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America as the possible suspect in the mass shooting early this morning at a screening of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. He is a 52-year-old Hispanic conservative who joined the Tea Party after becoming disillusioned with the Republican party.

“It was freaky,” said Holmes, describing his reaction when ABC News speculated that he was the culprit who entered a crowded theater and opened fire on dozens of innocent men, women, and children. He disconnected his telephone and says that he is worried about members of his family who might be contacted by the media.

“Freaky” is very generous of him. It is an outrage.

Ace of Spades sums it up as only he can.

It would be funny, if it wasn’t so dangerous. An innocent man may have to fear for his life and for the welfare of his family members due to the beyond irresponsible “reporting” of Brian Ross and ABC. Reporting isn’t even the right word, even with sneer quotes. They were trying to push a narrative and an agenda, plain and simple.

On the backs of the dead and at the expense of the innocent.
