Pfizer chairman and CEO Albert Bourla made a pretty huge announcement this morning:
I would like to let you know that I have tested positive for #COVID19. I am thankful to have received four doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and I am feeling well while experiencing very mild symptoms. I am isolating and have started a course of Paxlovid.

Here’s the thing: we’re reasonable, science-minded people. And we understand that it’s possible for a vaccine to be effective even if it doesn’t prevent you from contracting the virus, because the vaccine works by priming your immune system to fight the virus. Ultimately that could mean that you’re totally protected from the virus, or it could mean that your symptoms will be far milder if you contract it than they would be if you weren’t vaccinated.

The problem is that Bourla himself very strongly suggested in April 2021 that Pfizer’s “COVID-19 vaccine was 100% effective in preventing #COVID19 cases in South Africa. 100%!”

If it was 100% effective in preventing COVID in South Africa, presumably it would be 100% effective in preventing COVID in other countries as well. Obviously, that’s not the case, and it’s definitely not the case for Albert Bourla.

What happened is that Albert Bourla was either grossly misleading the public on what the Pfizer COVID vaccine was capable of, or he didn’t understand how vaccines work. Honestly, neither explanation should inspire a whole lot of confidence in his leadership abilities.
Why are you taking Paxlovid if you have a very mild case? Don't you trust the 4 doses of the vaccine?!

Just crashed my car for the fourth time. Faulty steering again! Only minor injuries this time. Can't wait to get the same model again – apart from the steering issue, it's really a great car. I recommend it to everyone and being the CEO of the manufacturer has no bearing on this.
