Back when Twitter was banning conservative accounts for far lesser offenses (which were quite often not really even offenses at all), Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei remained untouched. This was despite tweeting threats of violence, antisemitic filth, and, yes, even COVID misinformation.
But now that Elon Musk is in charge, at least for the time being, Twitter’s Terms of Service will at least in theory be enforced across the board equally. Maybe that’s why Khamenei is trying out a newer, gentler Twitter strategy.
