'Audience in tears!'; Dinesh D'Souza hits another home run with 'America'

Author/filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza’s first movie, “2016: Obama’s America,” was a box office hit that earned over $33 million in the run-up to the 2012 presidential election. Based on initial reviews on Twitter and elsewhere, his second movie, “America,” may prove to be equally successful.

The Hollywood Reporter says “America” revenue increased 60 percent day-over-day from Thursday to Friday and will generate a “respectable” $4.5 million during its first five days:

Dinesh D’Souza’s America, which expanded nationwide Wednesday after opening in Houston and Atlanta last weekend, prospered on Friday, soaring more than 60 percent day-over-day to $1 million. That compares, for example, to a 16 percent bump for Tammy. America is only playing in 1,100 locations, far fewer theaters than the other new holiday films. America, placing No. 11, won’t match the $6.5 million nationwide launch of D’Souza’s hit documentary 2016: Obama’s America two years ago, but is nevertheless expected to pull in a respectable $4.5 million for the five days.

Congratulations on another hit, Mr. D’ Souza.
